Motivation for starting the business,
and the background to its establishment
In April 1989, the company’s CEO, Masakazu Motoki, arrived in Japan aged 17. As he made his way through college, going on to work in a Japanese company, he became taken with the idea that he “would like to break down the walls that stand between Japan and China,” and “show China as it really is.” In order to turn this modest dream into reality, in 1998 Mr. Motoki, working by himself, founded the “Chinese Intelligence Bureau,” a website specializing in the distribution of information on China.
In the process of improving and expanding the site through repeated trial and error, he came into contact with other like-minded individuals, and the Chinese Intelligence Bureau experienced rapid growth. Little by little, as the dream became a reality, his ideals swelled greatly in their scope. When he started thinking about what was really needed in order for Japan and China to continue maintaining friendly relations in the years ahead, he realized that there was a need for truly mutual understanding, as well as the systematization and sharing of information.
With the aim of transforming this philosophy into tangible reality, he incorporated the Chinese Intelligence Bureau in September, 1999, and set up Searchina Co., Ltd.
